The ten strong, able bodied and fearless contestants, now popularly acclaimed Ten Order of Heroes, selected from the long list of 25,000 candidates that entered for the Gulder Ultimate Search (GUS V) this year, arrived the coal city of Enugu, on last night episode of the top adventure reality TV show, on both national and international cable TV networks, everyday.

They were warmly received in audience by a strong representative of the Enugu state government led by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Mr. Martin Ilo, who stood in for the State Executive Governor, Chief Sulliva Chime. Others included the Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Mr. Chuks Ugwuoke, Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Chief J. C. Ude, Commissioner for Environment, Mr. Chijioke Agu, Special Adviser to the Governor on Public Englightenment, Mr. Paul Nnajiofor and General Manager, Enugu state Tourism Board, Hon. Manfred Tony Nzekwe.

At a brief ceremony, Mr. Ilo, on behalf of the government and people of Enugu state gave full blessing and support for Awgu Hills and jungle to be brought down if possible by the heroes, to fish out the ‘Lost Chronicle’. Earlier in an address by the Group Marketing Manager (Lager Brands) of the host company, Nigeria Breweries Plc (NB); and leader of the GUS V team, Mr. Tony Agenmonmen, commended the state government on its development stride and prayed for the dividend of democracy to go round the people. He equally congratulated the state governor on his victory at the election tribunal and finally gave a quick load down of the GUS, from inception. The Corporate Brands Communications Manager of the company, Mr. Vindah Edem, performed the introduction and presentation of the Ten Order of Heroes and the anchorman for GUS V, Bob-Manuel Udokwu, to the government and people of Enugu state.

This was after a brief preview of the final selection party the previous day, which produced the ten heroes. Spotlight was also thrown on some of their inherent qualities.

The arrival of the heroes at Enugu, on a Sunday then took the centre stage as they conducted a prayer and worship session inside the deluxe GUS bus that took them from the Akanu Ibiam Airpot, to an exclusive hotel for a night rest. There after, the GUS V, operation “Coal City Storm” on Awgu Hills and jungle was lunched with Bob-Manuel Udokwu as Field Marshal. The starting point was the famous Enugu-Mmaku road junction, declared as the “point of no return” for the search. Any of the well acclaimed Order of Heroes with chicken heart or little faith was asked to go back at that point. But they all appeared bold, determined and battle ready for the challenge. Without much ado, he read out the riots act to them to flag off the search proper in this year’s edition of GUS: “What you do from here, is up to you; Look out for clues all the time and listen careful: any serious mistake, you are out.” He warned.

The heroes were asked to pick a fully loaded bag each, as kit for the dreaded adventure, check underneath the sole of the boot tied to it for the one which bears their name. Thereafter, they were instructed to put on the boot in exchange for whichever shoe they were wearing. They were equally stripped of whatever personal effect on them in exchange for the kit-bag and ordered to invade Awgu Hills and bring back back the ‘Lost Chronicle’. The war starts: No retreat… no Surrender. The only bullet is eviction.
